Description.

United Airlines has been using a 55,499-square-foot hangar and a 1,600-square-foot pump house to maintain its Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

STOA contributed to the design of United Airlines’ state-of-the-art B-Check Hangar at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), a critical component of the airline’s $200 million Technical Operations Center. The facility was developed to support widebody aircraft maintenance operations with a focus on efficiency, safety, and operational precision. The hangar’s design integrates large-span structural systems, high-capacity service infrastructure, and optimized maintenance workflows to accommodate complex aviation servicing requirements. As part of a broader technical campus, the project reinforces United Airlines’ long-term investment in advanced aviation operations and fleet reliability.

Features.

Coiling Doors
The hangar is equipped with high-performance coiling doors, allowing seamless aircraft access while maintaining secure enclosure and operational efficiency.
linear Skylights
Strategically placed linear skylights bring natural daylight deep into the hangar, reducing energy consumption and enhancing visibility for maintenance crews.
Translucent Wall Panels
Translucent wall panels diffuse sunlight to create a balanced interior lighting environment, supporting worker comfort and reducing reliance on artificial lighting.
