Description.

STOA transformed underutilized classroom spaces into a modern, adaptable learning environment designed to support collaborative teaching and advanced technology integration.

Rice University, through the Office of the Registrar, engaged STOA to combine two underutilized classrooms at Rayzor Hall into a single, collaborative learning environment. The existing configurations did not support the University’s emphasis on active and collaborative instruction, prompting a complete rethinking of the space. Working closely with the Office of the Registrar, STOA developed multiple seating and lectern concepts using detailed 3D schematics to evaluate layout and functionality. In collaboration with Rice’s IT/AV Group, the project integrated advanced audiovisual systems along with automated lighting and mechanical controls. Upgrades included new LED lighting and controls, ceiling-mounted projectors and screens, an 85-inch monitor, a new technology fur-out wall with FSR box at the lectern, and a custom Power Kiosk niche to support charging for up to 20 student devices.
